Platige Image and Jeremi Brodnicki, set designer, reveal some behind-the-scenes secrets about the set design and props.
“The set design for The Pilots is created in several places simultaneously. Platige Image in Warsaw makes animated backgrounds, such as broad landscapes and city alleys. They also create incredible animations of the aerial battles. In Szczecin we build car replicas, while in Lublin, we build a replica of the Hawker Hurricane—one of the three types of planes used by Polish pilots during the Battle of Britain. In addition, we create furniture and, among other things, a gazebo, stairs, etc. Selected parts—such as new curtains—are made at the theatre workshops. Everything is created in a completely traditional manner and based on aluminium or steel structures appropriately covered with plywood, Dibond, mesh, or ABS parts, and coated with stain or acrylic paint” says Jeremi Brodnicki, set designer.
