The show “Tuwim for Adults” is a passionate and witty portrait of Julian Tuwim, a poet with a very distinct attitude to life, human shortcomings and customs and politics. This attitude is perfectly reflected in his famous motto; Kiss Me in the A** , also the title of one of Tuwim’s poems. The artist’s sarcastic, nonchalant attitude characterized the greatest part of his work, especially dating from Poland before World War II. It was a period of youth in a way mythologized by the poet, the time of “Pikador” (a literary café of which he was a co-founder), “Qui Pro Quo”, “Czarny Kot” and other popular cabarets spread around Warsaw, the time of “Skamander” – a legendary poetic group founded by Tuwim himself along with Słonimski, Lechoń, Wierzyński and Iwaszkiewicz. “Skamander” had an overwhelming influence on the artistic, as well as the moral and social life in Poland before the Second World War.
