This musical performance, written and directed by Łukasz Czuj, is an invitation to immerse oneself into the pulse of the urban night. The character of the story is a city by night, a big metropolis and its people. A journey through the city by night reveals the gloomy stories of its characters. We get into a taxi and travel through the streets, we lend up in a night bar, at a police station, meet the working girls. We encounter differetnt people and get to know their expressionist portraits – people who are grotesque, unhappy or altogether mad.
The performance „Berlin, Four in the morning” is comprised of 16 songs written by the most prominent creators of the German cabaret: Friedrich Hollaender, Mischa Spoliansky, Kurt Tucholski. They constitute a starting point to the musical story, in which selected narrative motifs are presented through dance.
SHE– is any woman who can be met at night or in dreams. HE – an archetype of a bar-fly, a man with character which can fascinate or frighten her. Both have many faces and are easy to be mistaken for somebody else. At night all cats are black.
The metropolis at night is a world of its own, a dark fairy-tale whose magic must evaporate with the break of dawn. And what will remain of her, of him? The poetry of a song, a dancer’s gesture. Fantasy, that will live in us long after the city will wake up to the prose of everyday life.
